Commissions:
Being engaged to undertake a commission is always a privilege and hopefully the below information will answer the majority of the queries you may have, should you be considering a commission.
My work is based around capturing the essence and 'soul' of the wild animal subjects in my pieces, so the majority of the images are cropped in close and centre around the eyes of the subject or the connection between the subject animals if there is more than one animal.
Any reference photographs which I use for my pieces need to have tonal contrast and sharp detail and are cropped to suit the composition I feel works best.
Once a particular wild animal has been selected as your subject, then I would research reference photographs based on your requirements and select those that work best in reflecting my work, your requirements and the chosen canvas size. I would then email the selection (on average between 2 - 5 photographs) for you to review and decide which one you prefer.
Canvas Size:
Due to the nature of working with wire then this governs the smallest canvas size that I can work to, which is 60cm by 60cm, as I cannot produce the required detail on a smaller canvas. This canvas size would lend itself to head or head/shoulder portraits only.
The largest size which I currently work to is 1.2m by 1m.
Timescale:
As each piece I produce is very labour intensive then I quote a minimum of 6 months to create a piece, with some of the larger, more tonal pieces taking a little longer.
